I'm an aunt again!

Got the phone call this morning. Jinx and Valerie had a baby girl at 10:30 last night. 8lbs 14 oz. As yet without a name - think they were expecting a boy (so were we). Lucky for them Ruby already has lots of hand-me-downs to send. Welcome baby!

***Katie Michele*** Katherine Michele - I'm not totally sure about the spelling, will update when I know for sure. Katie. I like it.

it was such a nice day. Then I got off the phone with Corie after the kids finished their baths...and all heck broke loose. Isaac was playing "snow shovel" with the dustpan in the kitchen, and managed to whack Norah in the mouth. As he was backing up from the 'scene of the crime', he tripped and landed on Ruby in the bouncy seat. After calming down both girls, while Rob dealt with our little klutz, I manged to drop Ruby's antibiotic bottle on the floor and spill most of what was there. Then Norah got the top of her (full) bottle off, and there was milk everywhere. Ok, that was a rough half hour!

I'm currently enjoying the silence of 2 kids in bed, and one nursing on my lap.
It looks messy, but it's tidy.  A dresser and bookshelf...freshly

washed and folded cloth fluff for my babies bottoms.  *sigh* what

a lovely sight.

Today I will learn and master a back carry with my wrap. Norah wants to be carried, and she's really heavy in the sling right now. I will do it!

EDIT - it's really hard to back carry when your toddler won't be still. I did, however, master a front carry with Ruby.

Yay, Monika is blogging now too. Yet another one won over to the blog side...hee hee hee

check out my kids blog to see Ruby's new skill. She started tonight. It's great.

it's a small world

Rob was doing a funeral today in a village part way between here and Loon Lake. The deceased's nieces were there, one from BC. Surrey to be exact. Her and Rob are talking. Turns out, they know Valerie's parents, and she attends church with them. Valerie is married to Rob's brother, for those who aren't in the loop with my extended family. Not only is Valerie a great sister in law...she is now officially 6 days overdue with my niece or nephew. *excitedly chewing my fingernails in anticipation*

Girls are doing great today. Although, I often have to remind Norah that I am not a scratching post as she rubs her face across me. All three kids took naps today, and started within 3o minutes of each other...I had a nice break. A go on the treadmill, a shower and some quality message board time. Lovely.

Go, Canada, Go

Women's gold medal hockey game on now. We're up 4 - 0 to Sweden at the end of the second period. I'm excited for women's hockey that the final isn't USA and Canada for a change - first time since 1991 that it hasn't been those 2 teams. And I'm even more excited that we're winning!

I have an earache today. No fun. But the girls are doing better today. Norah is back to running around and giggling at *nothing*, Ruby is cooing and singing all the time. It's lovely.

and the pox marches on

sick girls. one with an eye infection that I'm convinced is a pox on her eyeball. the other with an ear infection. took me 3 kids to get an ear infection. not bad... one trip to emergency after a phone call to the provincial health line to see if it was worth it. I hate that we only have emergency care available on weekends. At least one of my favorite doctors was in, he ran my spinal during Ruby's birth.

So glad we got them checked out though. Norah didn't sleep much at all last night. She kept trying to scratch and was feverish and hard to settle. I was up most of the night with her cuddled on the couch. So grateful for the Olympics on late night tv. Ruby screamed for about 3 hours straight last night, she's never done that before...I think she cried more last night than she has in her entire life combined. After the trip to the hospital, we managed to get naps out of the girls. Especially after they had a dose of tylenol and benadryl. Ruby has barely nursed today, and I'm really not enjoying that.

Baked cookies with Isaac today, oatmeal cranberry and raisin, with added flax seed. yummy. I'm feeling so badly that Isaac is getting ignored in all this sickness. It's a good thing he's all into playing hockey in the basement. Helped when I had both girls crying on my lap while Rob was out at an appointment.

7:20 and Norah is asleep already. She was begging to go to bed. I just hope she sleeps better tonight. Ruby is flaked out on my lap. Isaac is dancing around the kitchen while we listen to music. Tomorrow, Isaac will go to church with Rob and get to go to Sunday school. Another Sunday missed. At least I will get to listen to the Vinyl Cafe at noon.

more babies...

Angela and Lionel had their third. Matthea (spelling?), aka, Thea. Feb. 5. She was 7lbs 10oz - I think that's what she said. Emergency c-section...in Vernon. She was 4 weeks early and they were visiting family. I can't imagine having that happen. But then again, I don't go into labor at all on my own it seems. Apparently, baby flipped to transverse and her water broke. Yikes. I just can't imagine that scenario...

What is it with so many c-sections with the people I know these days? Of the 8 people having babies (including me) in my circle of friends and family, we are so far running 4 c-sections to 2 non-medicated vaginal births. Really hoping and praying that the next 2 aren't surgical....

see that? the ice on our window? we had that on all our
windows this morning. about 1.5 inches tall. why do we have
ice on the windows? the inside of the windows?

because it's -36 outside, plus a windchill of -49! There is a
wind chill warning for the province today...arctic winds. Arctic
winds...I'll say.

chicken pox. round 2. and it's ugly. Ruby is covered, Norah isn't looking bad. But Ruby...my little baby...oh, it's bad.

Sunday, February 12, 2006

Home alone with the kids tonight. Rob's at a pre-funeral prayer service. Older 2 are bathed and having bedtime snack. Baby is napping in bouncy seat. We're all in the kitchen after a great game of tag up and down the hall. I start cleaning up the kitchen from dinner. Death Cab for Cutie's Plans is playing. Not a good album to listen to when your beloved husband is dealing with the realities of life and death. "What Sarah Said" just brought me to tears. Just the other day, Rob was telling me about that time spent in a hospital room with someone who was dying, and how that song really captures so much of that time. Combine that with the reality of losing my grandmother just before Ruby was born and I just lost it. Started crying. Thinking about how one day, maybe even sooner than I think, people I love will die. At that point, Isaac looked concerned and asked me why I was sad and how he "could make you be very happy again". Hugs fix a lot. Still, it's hard to reach a point in life where you really know that there comes an end point to life here on earth. Feeling a little deep and thoughtful tonight...and wanting to give extra hugs to my kids.

Blog cloud...cool

sad

We got a phone call yesterday that a member of our church died. She hasn't been attending services because she was rather old and living in the Lodge in town, but she was there for Christmas Eve. It was unfortunate that her husband couldn't be there on Christmas Eve with her (he had the flu).

Anyhow, Rob loved going to visit her and her hubby at the Lodge. John and Muriel were 2 of his favourite people to visit. They are just so cute. Back when we rented The Notebook, Rob said that the couple reminded him of John and Muriel. They were living in the Lodge, but she was more ill and frail than he was. They would hold hands all the time, and loved to be together, even though they had separate rooms. Muriel passed away in her sleep yesterday. Rob went by to see John, and John was so happy that he had gotten to say goodnight and tuck her into bed the night before. John said that he had a feeling that something was different that night. Christmas Eve was their 64th Wedding anniversary, and they had been together since they were 15. Can you imagine? They had 8 children, 7 boys and one girl, and were very long time members of our church. In fact, the church started on John's parent's farm in their living room, and their family is much loved in these parts. Our church has it's 75th anniversary this year.

Rob is doing the funeral on Monday morning. They were originally going to do the service on Tuesday...but that's Valentine's day, which would be a really sad day to bury your spouse. Anyhow, Rob is feeling a touch sad today about it. Don't blame him.

I want to get some of these shirts.
how exciting that the snowplow came by today...and plowed the street in such a way that we don't have to shovel snow at the end of the driveway!

and how sad is it that I'm really excited by that? :) But seriously, anyone who curses the snowplow will understand the beauty of this action.

You know what else makes me happy? Late night long distance phone calls from friends, especially when I get to hear their new baby sounds in the background. Also sharing in the joy and wonder of new motherhood with that same friend.

changes

I've created a new blog for my kids. Mainly to keep family up to date on stuff. Didn't want to let them into here, so I'm at liberty to whine about things that I don't need them to know about :) So if you want to keep up to date on my kids, follow the link on the sidebar.

careful what you wish for...

Apparently my cry for more snow has been heard. It's snowing like stink out there right now. As in, it started less than an hour ago and we've already had about 2 cms. I'm so glad Rob is doing a grocery run and picking up hot chocolate mix, this is the kind of day for a hot chocolate. It's really pretty, if hard to see in.

I'm going to order some BabyLegs really soon, I'm so excited. Just need to pick the colours/patterns I want. Next week, I'll probably order them, after we get Rob's cheque and know how much we can spend. Norah has been wearing her new wool longies around the house all the time - she loves them. I love cloth diapes and all the fun stuff that goes with them!

so...anyone know...

what it feels like to come down with chicken pox? anyone???
Our fresh snow...and my messy van, which hasn't moved since Friday.  Gotta love being house bound and contagious

Image hosting by Photobucket
This was nice. A man that Rob has been visiting in his home and taking eucharist to just came by and cleared our driveway with his ATV and snowplow attachment. Nice.

Both girls are napping, and Isaac is avoiding it - even though he really needs one. I'm feeling rather lousy today myself.

The snow looks like rolled fondant icing on a cake, it's just beautiful. Don't want to walk outside and spoil the effect in the yard. The sun is out and making everything sparkly. The days are definitely longer now - the sun was up before 9am today.

As of tomorrow, we have officially been in this house one year. Wow. Better hang some pictures.

Sunday, February 05, 2006

well it's about time!

We finally got a nice dumping of snow. 6 inches or so. Nice. Now the sun is out and it's really mild...I maybe can take the kids out for a walk. If only I didn't feel quite so sick myself. :(

Ok - we got about 15 minutes of snow play in before Ruby needed to nurse and Norah pooped. It was beautiful snow...light and fluffy and cloud-like. Rob just got home and is shovelling out the driveway so he can get the car in. Even with the snow tires, he was spinning out. Norah still can't walk in the snow well, but she did enjoy it. Isaac enjoyed sweeping the snow off my van. :)
Norah has a lovely new doll sling. She loves carrying around her
babies in it. Thanks so much to Sarah (Rosie Took) and her SIL
for getting this to us. We love it!

It's a boy!

Linden Paul arrived February 2 at 3:50 am. He weighed in at 8lbs
9oz and is 22 inches long. He's gorgeous and I can't wait to meet
him!

Red, itchy spots have infiltrated our home. They are slowly, but surely, creeping up Isaac's body. Leaving their marks on his torso, face and arms. Norah is showing some signs of a cold, but it could be more than that...

DARN CHICKEN POX!

Our house is open for anyone who wants to come for a pox party. I'll provide snacks, juice and coffee :)
