We got a phone call yesterday that a member of our church died. She hasn't been attending services because she was rather old and living in the Lodge in town, but she was there for Christmas Eve. It was unfortunate that her husband couldn't be there on Christmas Eve with her (he had the flu).
Anyhow, Rob loved going to visit her and her hubby at the Lodge. John and Muriel were 2 of his favourite people to visit. They are just so cute. Back when we rented The Notebook, Rob said that the couple reminded him of John and Muriel. They were living in the Lodge, but she was more ill and frail than he was. They would hold hands all the time, and loved to be together, even though they had separate rooms. Muriel passed away in her sleep yesterday. Rob went by to see John, and John was so happy that he had gotten to say goodnight and tuck her into bed the night before. John said that he had a feeling that something was different that night. Christmas Eve was their 64th Wedding anniversary, and they had been together since they were 15. Can you imagine? They had 8 children, 7 boys and one girl, and were very long time members of our church. In fact, the church started on John's parent's farm in their living room, and their family is much loved in these parts. Our church has it's 75th anniversary this year.
Rob is doing the funeral on Monday morning. They were originally going to do the service on Tuesday...but that's Valentine's day, which would be a really sad day to bury your spouse. Anyhow, Rob is feeling a touch sad today about it. Don't blame him.
